Biodiversity Values Map Review (BOSET)

Review of Land Mapped Purple on NSW Biodiversity Values Map

The Biodiversity Values (BV) Map ( ‘the Purple Map‘) is a public web-based map managed by the NSW Government. The purpose of the map is to identify areas that may be adversely impacted from  vegetation clearing  caused by a development application (DA) in (all developments in accordance with Part 4 of the NSW Environmental Planning & Assessment Act) this includes new structures, dwellings, subdivisions, and areas where new bushfire Asset Protection Zones (APZ) require vegetation management.

If you are undertaking a DA on your property or other land, you are required to check whether this land is coloured ‘purple‘ on the NSW ‘Biodiversity Values Map’. Any clearing of native vegetation or impact to potential threatened species habitat within an area mapped 'purple' instantly triggers the NSW Biodiversity Offset Scheme (BOS). This means you will need to commission the services of an Accredited Biodiversity Assessor, such as our experts at Land Eco Consulting  to prepare a 'Biodiversity Development Assessment Report' which you will submit to Council with your DA.

Sometimes landholders feel that the purple Biodiversity Values Mapping is incorrect. If you are one of these people, you are eligible to apply for a 'Biodiversity Values Map Review'.

A Biodiversity Values Map Review allows landholders to provide the NSW Department of Planning Industry and Environment extra information to help reviewers to get the map right.  This may result in updating the purple map such that it no longer extends over your land.

Land Eco Consulting can help you obtain a Biodiversity Values Map Review
